The NSC assesses proposed new screening programmes against a set of internationally recognised criteria covering the condition, the test, the treatment options and effectiveness and acceptability of the screening programme. In forming its proposals, the NSC draws on the latest research evidence and the skills of specially convened multi-disciplinary expert groups, which always include patient and service user representatives.

NICE - The National Institute for Clinical Excellence is part of the NHS. It aims to provide patients, health professionals and the public with authoritative, robust and reliable guidance on current “best practice”. The guidance covers both individual health technologies (including medicines, medical devices, diagnostic techniques, and procedures) and the clinical management of specific conditions.
